How To add Defined Rules and Unit Sets to a Major

Why do I need Defined Rules and Unit Sets?

Defined Rules and Unit Sets are the tools you use to specify how a Learner achieves a Qualification.

To achieve a Major within a Qualification, a Learner must satisfy all of the Defined Rules in one Rule Set.

You can create multiple Rule Sets for each Major. This gives a Learner several pathways for achieving a Qualification Major.

Defined Rules examples

Qualification: Business Administration
Major: Financial Management
2 Rule Sets for this Major (i.e. two options for a Learner to complete this Major)

Rule Set 1:

  •  3 completed Units from Unit Set A, AND
  • 2 completed Units from Unit Set B

 

Rule Set 2:

  • 2 completed Units from Unit Set B, AND
  • 40 points from completed Units from Unit Set C

 

A Learner needs to satisfy the requirements from one Rule Set to be eligible for this Major.

Ideas on how to use Unit Sets

Idea #1: By year

  • Unit Set 1: Courses for Year 1
  • Unit Set 2: Courses for Year 2
  • Unit Set 3: Courses for Year 3

 

Idea #2: Core and Elective

  • Unit Set 1: Core units
  • Unit Set 2: Elective units

Navigate to the Major

  1. Search for the Qualification to which the Major is attached.
  2. Navigate to Selected Qualification > Details
  3. In the Major card, click on the Major you wish to edit.
  4. This takes you to Selected Major > Detail.

Add Unit Sets to a Major

  1. On the Qualification Unit Sets card, click Add.
    • The Add Unit Set drawer opens.
  2. Enter a Description
  3. Click Save.

Add Units to a Unit Set

  1. Navigate to Selected Major > Units.
  2. Click Add Unit
    • The Add Unit drawer appears.
  3. Search for a Unit.
    • It will bring up all Units in your LRM
  4. Select a Unit Set to attach a Unit to.
  5. Enter the number of Credit Points for this Unit.
  6. Click Save.

Add Defined Rules to a Major

  1. On the Defined Rules card, click Edit.
    • The Edit Set drawer opens.
  2. Click Add New Rule Set
  3. Select a Unit Set, or select All Qualification Units
  4. Select a Rule Type
    • Completed Units
    • Credit Points
  5. Enter a Value
  6. (Optional) Add a new Rule under your Rule Set
  7. (Optional) Add a new Rule Set.
  8. Click Save.
