Use this resource as a reference guide for your SDR student enrolment types as defined by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC)
Please note that the reporting requirements differ for each type of enrolment. In Wisenet, you can run Report 2123 to assist you in identifying Student Types and you can also filter to include InLastSDRExport = True.

Student Enrolment Types matched to SDR File Fields
Type C Enrolment
Applies to:
Learners enrolled in a non-formal programme only.
SDR reporting requirements:
Learner file
Only the following learner fields are required:
- Provider Code
- Student Identification Code
- Gender
- Date of Birth
- Total Fee for Domestic Student
- Name ID Code
- Country of Citizenship
- Iwi Affiliation
- National Student Number (NSN)
- Tuition Fee Paid by International Fee Paying Student
- Ethnicity
- Permanent Post Code
- Term Post Code
- Disability Status
- Disability Support Needs
Course Enrolment file
- All fields required.
Qualification Completion file
- Type C learners are NOT reported in the Qualification Completion file.
Course Completion file
- Type C learners are NOT reported in the Course Completion file.
Additional notes:
- Type C learners may already have a National Student Number (NSN). They may have a verified or unverified NSN.
- If the learner does not already have an NSN, one must be created.
Type D Enrolment
Applies to:
Learners:
- Enrolled in a qualification or a course of a qualification
(qualification award category is not 90, 91, 97, or 99), and - With a total EFTS value greater than 0.03.
This includes learners in courses funded through:
- Qualification Delivery funding, or
- Youth Guarantee.
Key requirements:
- Learner’s:
- Name,
- Date of birth, and
- Residential status
must be verified for a Type D learner.
SDR reporting:
- Full SDR reporting is generally required because these are formal qualification enrolments.
Type B Enrolment
Applies to:
Learners who are:
- Funded by STAR, or
- Not enrolled in a formal qualification with a total EFTS value greater than 0.03.
Key requirements:
- Minimal SDR reporting requirements compared with Types C and D.
- Typically used for short or school-funded training not leading to a formal qualification outcome.
