Transition to New Wisenet Plugin

Published by: 0

If you have previously used, or are currently using, our Moodle Integration Plugins, this guide will help you transition seamlessly to the new Wisenet Plugin.

Transitioning to the new Plugin is mandatory for customers using Moodle version 4.5 or higher. The new Plugin is also compatible with versions below 4.5, so there is no requirement to upgrade your Moodle version before making the switch if you choose to use the Plugin.

How do I start the transition process?

The following instructions are designed to simplify the process and allow you to focus one step at a time. In a brief:

  1. Plugin installation – Deploy the new Wisenet Plugin into your Moodle environment and remove legacy integration Plugins after configuring the new Plugin.
  2. Setup & configuration- Configure Course Sync and Grade Sync (Grade sync is a Premium Edition only feature).
  3. Testing – Perform end-to-end testing (course sync, enrolments, grade flows).

Step 1: Familiarise yourself with the transition steps

Previously, you may have installed the Webhooks Plugin to sync course updates and Wisenet Connector Grades Plugin to sync grade updates to Wisenet. These are no longer required. The new Wisenet Plugin leverages Moodle events to send data directly to Wisenet for processing, enabling real-time synchronisation of Course and Grade data between Moodle and the Wisenet LRM.

If you are using the Standard Edition, you can skip the Grade Sync settings in Step 3.

Step 2: Request the new Wisenet Plugin

  1. Contact Wisenet Support to request your Wisenet Plugin zip file
  2. Download and Save the zip file on your local server or computer and follow the next steps.

Step 3: Configure the new Wisenet Plugin

Most of the settings for the new Wisenet Plugin can be copied directly from your existing Plugin configuration. Do not delete the old Wisenet Connector Grades Plugin until you have completed the setup of the new Plugin and confirmed it is working as expected.

For detailed instructions, see Steps to Setup Moodle Course and Grade Sync

Step 4: Remove Webhooks and Wisenet Connector grade plugins

Once the new Wisenet Plugin is fully configured and tested, you can uninstall the Webhooks Plugin and the Wisenet Connector Grades Plugin. These plugins are no longer required, as all course and grade synchronisation is now handled by the new Wisenet Plugin.

See Uninstalling Moodle Plugins

Note: If you are using the Webhooks Plugin for other third party integration purposes then do not uninstall as this will affect the data flow between your Moodle and other applications. You no longer need this plugin for Wisenet elearning Integration.

Step 5: Test new Wisenet Plugin

All settings including the Moodle Connected App in Wisenet, Enrolment Rules and Autograde Rules, Grade Categories in Moodle and other configuration should function exactly as before, with no changes required in Wisenet. However, it is always recommended to run a thorough test to confirm that Course Sync, Grade Sync, and other key workflows are operating correctly.
