VDS Program Update
The VET Data Streamlining (VDS) Program is a strategic Australian Government initiative under the Enhanced VET Data and Evidence framework, established to modernise how vocational education and training (VET) activity data is collected, managed and utilised across the sector. It supports the objectives of the National Skills Agreement, enabling more accurate, timely and secure data to inform evidence-based decision-making by governments, regulators and providers.
The program introduces a new VET Information Standard to replace AVETMISS 8.0, implements the Student and Training Activity Reporting System (STARS) for streamlined data submission, and updates relevant policy and legislative settings. When fully implemented, it will reduce reporting burden, improve data quality and validation processes, and deliver a consistent national dataset that enhances analytics and supports better outcomes for students, industry and government stakeholders.
Proposed VDS Program transition timeline
